The BJP is reportedly planning to field some of its Rajya Sabha MPs in the general elections, especially from states where it has adequate representation in the assembly and will be able to replace them in the Upper House. The list of Rajya Sabha MPs who may enter the fray includes some Union ministers, BJP sources said. Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad is likely to contest from Patna Sahib, the constituency of rebel MP Shatrughan Sinha. The seat has a sizable number Kayastha voters. Prasad’s name was doing the rounds for this seat in previous elections too. Textile minister Smriti Irani, who fought against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, will throw in her hat this time too, according to BJP sources. She has been paying regular visits to the constituency, though defeating the Congress chief in a direct contest would be an uphill task.
