The Government of India launched the Bima Sakhi – Mahila Career Agent (MCA) Scheme on December 9, 2024, to empower women by offering them career opportunities in the life insurance sector. Under this initiative, the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has extended both financial support and career advancement prospects to women agents across the country.
In FY 2024–25, LIC disbursed ₹62.36 crore as stipend to Bima Sakhis. For the ongoing financial year 2025–26, LIC has earmarked a budget of ₹520 crore, out of which ₹115.13 crore has already been paid as of July 14, 2025.
Currently, there are 2,05,896 Bima Sakhis operating across India.
Key Features of the Bima Sakhi Scheme:

Career Progression:
Graduate Bima Sakhis who have completed five years of service are eligible to apply for the post of Apprentice Development Officer (ADO) in LIC, provided they meet the required criteria. -
Stipend Support:
To help Bima Sakhis establish themselves in the insurance industry, LIC provides a stipend for the first three years from their appointment:-
₹7,000 per month in the first year

₹6,000 per month in the second year

₹5,000 per month in the third year
This stipend is in addition to regular commission payouts, subject to performance benchmarks.

LIC also offers incentives linked to performance, promoting both financial independence and professional growth.
