Pradhan who met Opec secretary general Sanusi Mohammad Barkindo in the capital on Sunday said “responsible pricing” by the producers’ grouping was important for India’s socioeconomic and development, a statement from the oil ministry said. (LiveMint) The Indian Railways ecosystem can create a million jobs within the next 12 months, said railway minister Piyush Goyal at the opening session of the India Economic Summit. As part of this exercise, the national carrier plans to create a sort of a franchisee model wherein local entrepreneurs, by using a smart device, can book tickets at 2,000 railway stations across its network which don’t have a booking office. “This is in the works and will happen very soon,” Goyal. The proposal, if it goes through, will fetch higher returns to 4.5 crore EPFO subscribers in the current declining interest rate regime where returns on provident fund accumulations are bound to see a downward trend, much in sync with other small saving schemes. Sadabhau Khot, Maharashtra’s minister of state for agriculture, said that the government has begun registration of farmers for the PSS, which is being done by NAFED from October 3. (TH) The Gujarat government on Thursday gave indications of a possible reduction in the Value Added Tax (VAT) rates for petrol and diesel after the Centre asked States to take measures to bring down the fuel prices.
