The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, will visit Karnataka on October 24 and 25, 2017. This will be his first visit to the State after assuming office as President. On October 24, 2017, the President will commence his engagements by paying tributes to the founder of Bengaluru, Kempe Gowda. Later, he will visit IISc, Bengaluru laboratory and attend a round-table discussion with scientists. On October 25, 2017, the President will grace the ‘Vajramahothsava’ – Diamond Jubilee Celebrations on completion of 60 years of Vidhana Soudha, and address members of both Houses of the Karnataka Legislature.

(PTI) In order to encourage savings, the government has allowed banks, including top three private sector lenders, to accept deposits under various small savings schemes like National Savings Certificate (NSC), Recurring Deposits and Monthly Income Scheme (MIS). Until now, most of the small savings schemes were sold through post offices. (FE) India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka on Sunday. Swaraj, who is on two-day visit, will also attend the fourth Bangladesh-India Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting, the Dhaka Tribune reported. This is Swaraj’s second visit to Bangladesh. She last visited the country in 2014. The JCC meeting is expected to review the implementation and progress of decisions taken during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India this year. The meeting will coordinate, oversee and follow-up implementation of initiatives as well as explore new avenues for cooperation.

The RBI clarification followed media reports quoting a reply to a Right to Information (RTI) application that suggested the apex bank has not issued any order for mandatory Aadhaar linkage with bank accounts. “The Reserve Bank clarifies that, in applicable cases, linkage of Aadhaar number to bank account is mandatory under the Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017 published in the Official Gazette on June 1, 2017,” the central bank said in a statement.
