(TOI) Union petroleum and natural gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said the government is planning to curb the imports of petroleum coke, also known as ‘pet coke’, which is believed to be a major polluter. The statement follows reports that US-based oil refineries are exporting pet coke- a carbon-rich solid material derived from oil refining- to India as there aren’t many takers for it in their country. “Recently the Supreme Court banned the use of pet coke in three states surrounding the Delhi-NCR. (PTI) Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has sought Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s assistance for setting up a Rs 750-crore ethanol plant in Bargarh district, as part of measures to promote eco-friendly alternative fuel. The plant is proposed to be set up by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) at Baulsingha in the district, he said. BPCL has already appointed Project Management Consultant for early commencement of developmental activities at the site. (PTI) Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is likely to present India’s first post-GST and the current government’s last full Budget on February 1 next year. The Budget session of Parliament may begin on January 30 with President Ram Nath Kovind addressing the Joint Session of both the Houses of Parliament, a senior government official said.
