More than two weeks into a new system of daily price revisions, petrol prices have come down up to 6 per cent and diesel has become cheaper by around 5 per cent in the four major cities. (ET) The Centre’s flagship rural jobs programme has edged out the scheme providing subsidy on cooking gas cylinders in helping the government save the most in a financial year by better targeting of beneficiaries. The government has released data showing it saved Rs 8,741 crore in 2016-17 by weeding out nearly one crore fake beneficiaries of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), launched by its predecessor UPA, by using Aadhaar and direct benefit transfer (DBT). (ET) Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) plans to use undersea infrastructure of Gujarat firm GSPC to produce gas from its own KG-basin fields in the Bay of Bengal. ONGC last year agreed to buy Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation’s (GSPC) 80 per cent interest in the KG-OSN-2001/3 block, which sits next to the state-owned firm’s KG-DWN-98/2 or KG-D5 block. “We have divided discoveries in KG-D5 into three groups.
