(TIE) The government has provided an additional allocation of Rs 4,800 crore the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and the enhanced the target of beneficiaries under scheme to eight crore from five crore, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said. Pradhan said nearly 80 per cent of the beneficiaries availing the Ujjwala scheme refilled their LPG cylinders, with their average family consumption being 4.07 cylinders per year. (FE) The ministry of housing and urban affairs has approved the construction of 1,86,777 more affordable houses under its flagship Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), with an investment of Rs 11,169 crore, a government release said. The central assistance for the same will be Rs 2,797 crore. The approval was given at the 30th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee, it said, adding that the total homes sanctioned under PMAY(U) has now gone up to 37,83,392. (ET) The telecom regulator has suggested simplification of licensing and regulatory frameworks besides rationalisation of high taxes and levies by 2019 to attract $100 billion of investment by 2022, as much as $60 billion of this in the next two years itself. In its recommendations to the telecom department for the National Telecom Policy 2018 being formulated by the government, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has also backed a review of licence fees, spectrum usage charges (SUC) and the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) levy to enhance the overall ease of doing business.
Supply of coal to the Power Sector has risen to 210.3 Million Tonnes (MT) in the first six months of this fiscal against 195.2 MT during the corresponding period of 2016-17 thus recording growth of 7.74% (provisional).
