(PTI) BJP President Amit Shah today constituted a three-member committee which will consult political parties — including the opposition — to select a consensus candidate for the presidential poll. The committee, comprising senior union ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and M Venkaiah Naidu, will hold deliberations with BJP allies and opposition parties for the July 17 presidential election. “The committee’s mandate is to consult leaders of all political parties for the presidential poll and try to evolve a consensus,” a BJP statement said.The last date for filing nominations for the poll is June 28.

(PTI) Militants fired upon a policeman outside his camp in south Kashmir’s Shopian district today, leaving him injured. The shooting happened in Imam Sahib area of the district near the the camp of the special operations group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, a police official said. Special Police Officer (SPO) Khursheed Ahmad, who was injured in the attack, was rushed to the sub-district hospital. Police have launched a hunt to nab the attackers, the official said, adding that further details are awaited.
