(ET) India’s capital markets regulator intends to introduce rules that will force mutual funds to merge schemes in the same investment categories, driving long-pending consolidation in an industry that has hitherto ignored informal requests for ending the surfeit of plans. Broadly put, if a mutual fund has two equity schemes with mandates to invest in large-cap stocks, the asset manager will have to merge the investment products once the new rules proposed by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) kick in. The government is looking at giving a 2% incentive over the applicable GST tax rate in case of digital payments where the bill is up to Rs 2,000, in a move aimed at discouraging cash payments. (PTI) As many as 42 deaths in flood- related incidents were reported from Bihar in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 482, whereas five persons lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh, pushing the flood toll in that state to 101. The situation in flood-hit Assam though improved substantially and in north Bengal, the flood waters had receded from most of the areas in the six flood-hit districts.
