The government has finally appointed Dinesh K Sarraf, former CMD of ONGC, as the new chairman of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). Sarraf, 60, who retired as the chairman of India’s most profitable company ONGC on September 30, was appointed to head the PNGRB. He replaces S Krishnan, who demitted office in August 2015.

(ET) In a move to curb un-metered electricity connections, the Uttar Pradesh electricity regulator has raised tariffs for such households by 63% for the current year. The order issued on Thursday encourages consumers to shift to metered connections, its chairperson S K Agarwal told ET over phone from Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh has over 65 lakh un-metered connections. (LiveMint) India’s GDP growth surged by 6.3% in the September quarter, in an indication that the Indian economy has shaken off the lingering effects of demonetisation last year and GST rollout on 1 July. The Indian economy has expanded for the first time in five quarters. It had slowed to a three-year-low of 5.7% in the June quarter. The GDP data for the September quarter came on a day when it was reported that India’s fiscal deficit at the end of October hit 96.1% of the budget estimate for 2017-18.The GDP numbers, however, were slightly below expectations.
