Union home minister Amit Shah will visit Mizoram on October 5 as part of efforts by BJP to reach out to the Northeast on the proposed citizenship amendment bill. His visit will be preceded by that of Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam finance minister and convenor of the platform of non-Congress parties floated by the BJP — North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) — on October 1.
Shah will address party workers in Mizoram, state BJP president JV Hluna told ET, while other plans for this trip are being worked out. Shah, who visited Guwahati early this month to attend the NEDA convention, has assured that the new citizenship bill will be brought in Parliament only after consultations with stakeholders. He has said the bill will be brought in the next session of Parliament and before that the consultation process has to be concluded.
