Assembly elections are due in several states this year. The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in 2024. Earlier, Congress has made major changes. The party has also appointed Ajay Rai as uttar Pradesh Congress committee president in place of Brilal Khabri and made party general secretary Mukul Wasnik in-charge of Gujarat.
The appointments were made by party president Mallikarjun Kharge, according to a release issued by congress organisation general secretary KC Venugopal. Recently, Surjewala was also appointed as a senior observer for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. Ajay Rai has been given the responsibility of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee by removing Khabri from the Dalit community. Rai, who belongs to the Bhumihar caste, had also contested the Lok Sabha elections against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi. The party has appointed its senior leader Wasnik as in-charge of Gujarat. Raghu Sharma resigned from the post of in-charge after the Congress suffered a crushing defeat in the assembly elections held in the state late last year. Wasnik is considered one of the biggest Dalit faces of the Congress.
