During the last 48 hours in Manipur, the situation in the state continues to remain volatile and tense due to sporadic incidents of firing and unruly mob gathering. Three people have died in this riot. Security forces have launched search operations in sensitive and border areas, with a joint operation in the Kauruk area. A mountain range and seven illegal bunkers have been destroyed in the area.
In view of the situation in Manipur, the state cabinet has recommended to the Governor of Manipur on August 21 to convene the fourth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Unruly mob attacks police post
Unruly mobs stormed and looted 2′ IRB, Naransina, Kirenfabi police outpost and Thangalwai police post in Bishnupur district. In this attack, the unruly mob also tried to snatch arms and ammunition from the 7 th Battalion. Manipur Rifles, 2nd Battalion also attacked Manipur Rifles, Hingong police station and Singjamei police station but were chased away by security forces.
There was firing between armed miscreants in Kautruk, 02 (two) persons including 01 (one) security personnel were injured by bullets in Harothel and Senjam Chirang area. The security forces retaliated and opened fire and chased away the miscreants. One person injured in the attack succumbed to his injuries.
Between 500 and 600 people attacked
An unruly crowd of 500-600 people gathered in Fougachao Ikhai and security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, causing minor injuries to about 25 people. A total of 129 checkpoints/checkpoints have been set up in both hilly and valley districts of Manipur and police have detained 1047 people in connection with violations in various districts of the state.
An appeal has been made to the general public
With essential items Movement of 284 (two hundred eighty-four) vehicles has been ensured on NH-37 and 32 (thirty-two) vehicles on NH-2. Strict security measures have been taken at all sensitive places and security convoys are being made available in sensitive parts to ensure free and safe movement of vehicles.
The general public has been appealed not to believe in rumours and beware of false videos. The spread of any baseless videos etc. can be confirmed from the central control room’s rumour-free number – 9233522822. In addition, the public is appealed to return the looted weapons, ammunition and explosives to the police.
