Starting the election campaign for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the entire country should come together to build a new Jammu and Kashmir which is free from the cycle of violence. This is Modi’s first public meeting in Maharashtra after the party’s thumping victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a public meeting in Nashik, Modi said the recent decision of the union government to abrogate Article 370 and 35-A will not just end violence in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh but it will also stop corruption in the state.
“The decision will meet the aspiration of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. We have always said that Kashmir is ours, but the time has come to say that we will build a new Kashmir. The entire country has to come together and work for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, every village has to be developed,” said Modi.
