Minor Leak In ONGC Pipeline On Paddy Field Creates Panic

Leakage in the pipelines of ONGC near Mayiladuthurai in Nagapattinam district has caused panic among the farmers. However, it was attended by the authorities of ONGC to stop the leakage.According to villagers, the ONGC has established four oil wells at Pandur and Ponnur villages near Mayiladuthurai. The oil extracted from the four wells has been taken to a collection point established at Pandur village and then to the main plant located at Kuthalam, where it is refined. The entire pipelines have been traveling under agriculture fields. Meanwhile, farmers from Pandur had noticed a leakage in the pipeline during the evening hours on Thursday. This had created panic among the residents of the village.

The landowner Rajadurai, 50, had informed the concerned authorities of ONGC. On information, they rushed to the spot and found that there was a damage in one of the valves and subsequently rectified it. Sources from the oil corporation said that it was usual that minor damage occurs on the part of valves.
